Practice Areas
Divorce
Some people think of "divorce" as all of the legal issues that are related to separation and divorce (the assets, debts, spousal support, custody, and child support). However, those are each separate claims that must be addressed.
Alimony and Postseparation Support
Alimony is an amount of money that a supporting spouse must pay to a dependent spouse for his or her maintenance or support. Alimony can be paid periodically or in a lump sum and for a specific term or for an indefinite period of time.
Child Support
Child support are payments ordered for the support of a minor child in an amount sufficient to meet the reasonable needs of the child for health, education, and maintenance, having due regard for the estates, earnings, conditions, accustomed standard of living of the child and the parties, and other facts of the particular case.
Equitable Distribution
Equitable distribution is the division of marital property (assets) and debts acquired by the parties during the marriage. Assets that are classified as separate property are not subject to distribution.
Child Custody
Child Custody is often the most emotional area of the law surrounding separation and divorce. The court is charged with determining what custodial arrangement is in the best interest of the child.
Mediation and Arbitration
There are three ways to resolve your case outside of a traditional courtroom. Two of the ways lead to the parties reaching an agreement, or settlement. This can be done through negotiation and/or mediation.
